Table Manners every kid should know

D Y Patil Dnyanshanti School

Good table manners for kids are an important part of every meal, whether you're eating at home, dining out, or having dinner with friends. Educating your kids about proper mealtime etiquette gives them an advantage in gaining confidence in social situations. As your child gets older, it is important to teach them the basics and assist them in improving them.

Home is where social etiquette and table manners begin and is an effective way to express empathy and respect, as well as teach responsibility, self-control, engagement, and cooperation. From the manner of eating to the method of arranging tissues, they should have a vivid understanding of everything. There is an intricate relationship between basic hygiene and that place.

Here are a few important table manners for kids that you can start inculcating in them at a young age.

  • Avoid over-stuffing your mouth with food – Try not to load your mouth with food. It looks to be inappropriate behaviour. Excessive food can also block your throat
  • Use of Napkins on Lap - One of the most impressive table manners is the proper use of table napkins and utensils. Make that child understand that it protects clothes from stains, and teach them to wipe their hands or mouth with a napkin.
  • Maintain Decency— While dining, try to be polite. Give yourself adequate time to chew and swallow the food. Otherwise, it will get stuck in your throat and cause major problems.
  • Offer Help – Encourage your child to help if they're able. Instill the habit of tidying up their own plates after a meal, and teach your child to help set a table or clean up after the meal.

Remember that children learn by watching, mimicking, and practicing. Make sure that you practice good table manners at the table yourself and set a positive example for your child.
